Alabaster Corn Maiden by Jeff Shetima - Zuni Fetish

A large outstanding soft gold and slightly pink alabaster corn maiden carved by Jeff Shetima - picked up directly in October of 2022! This carving was carefully conceived before it was carved - just look where Jeff placed the micro inlaid healing heart line - composed of bits of apple coral, turquoise, jet and pen shell to name most. The maiden has a jet inlaid mouth and slit style inlaid eyes. The hair flows downwards on the back, coming to a point with incised lines - that are ingeniously recreated on the insides of the void - representing rain drops we have been told! The chest area has incised corn kernels with twelve large turquoise dots. The maiden is also mounted to an Egyptian marble base for added security. This is a show stopper, people! The maiden symbolizes abundance, fertility and feminine energy and the corn maiden in particular is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
