Picasso Marble Frog by Dana Malani - Zuni Fetish

A muted tan, cream, gray and black Picasso marble frog with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Dana Malani. Dana has incised a texture to create the frog's skin and also added a semi opened mouth which makes the frog appear to be smiling up at the viewer. The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frog sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning. The frog is a harbingers of rain thus they are honored in Zuni for rain is the essence of life.
