Serpentine Six-Directional Figure by Wilfred Cheama

A sage and olive green serpentine six-directional figure carved by Wilfred Cheama with each face peaking out of the stone with turquoise inlaid eyes. This figure depicts the 6 animals the Zuni revere and the directions they protect. The lion is the guardian of the north, the badger is the guardian of the south, the wolf protects the east and the bear the south. Finally the eagle represents the skies and the mole the underworld so it is appropriate that the mole is carved in low relief on the bottom.
