Turquoise* Maiden by Claudia Peina

A large turquoise maiden with a brown matrix, jet slit style inlaid eyes and a coral mouth. Carved by Claudia Peina there is lots to take in - like the apple coral bear claw necklace and 7 dot flower inlaid to the center of the manta. Also there are incised geometric patterns inlaid with jet and surrounded by coral beads on the manta and sash. The maiden wears two squash blossom buns held in place with coral clasps yet has long flowing hair incised the back side. The maiden symbolizes abundance, fertility and feminine energy & the corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
