543 BROADWAY

With the 543 Broadway collection, Meritalia® is once again collaborating with Gaetano Pesce's own workshop to learn and reproduce his special resin processing techniques. The Broadway chair rests on four, eight or nine legs, components of a thin, essential metal frame. 543 Broadway is a diverse collection that also includes limited–edition chairs and tables, already firmly established in the collective imagination and exhibited in major museums around the world, from MoMA in New York to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Their uniqueness and unusual shape have made history, but there’s much more. The chairs and table from Gaetano Pesce’s 543 Broadway series are a perfect example of the great designer’s tendency to create designs that can be reproduced in series while remaining entirely different from one another. Within Meritalia®’s multifaceted catalogue, the chairs and table appear as limited editions: pieces already firmly established in the collective imagination and preserved in major museums around the world, from MoMA in New York to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Their uniqueness and unconventional forms have made design history, but there is much more behind them. The seat and backrest of the 543 Broadway chair are key elements in rediscovering the modernity of Meritalia®’s production processes. A brilliant epoxy resin is injected into a mould, where the colours are free to blend spontaneously, creating ever-changing effects and making each piece truly unique. Once catalysed, this extraordinary material is assembled onto a metal structure, which remains visible through the transparency of the resin itself.
