This brittle master alloy contains 50% Magnesium and 50% Aluminum, designed for the safe and precise addition of magnesium to aluminum foundry melts (specifically 5000 and 7000 series alloys). Unlike pure magnesium ingots, which are difficult to break and prone to oxidation, this alloy is extremely brittle, allowing it to be easily shattered for exact weight adjustments. Its density is closer to liquid aluminum than pure magnesium is, which promotes rapid mixing and reduces magnesium burn-off (oxidation loss) on the surface of the melt.
