The Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker is the self-contained unit inside your freezer that automatically produces and harvests ice cubes for storage in the ice bin. It works by filling a mold with water, freezing it to the correct temperature, then releasing the cubes using a heating element and ejector blades before cycling again. The Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker can fail due to worn ejector components, a burned-out heating element, a faulty thermostat, or a failed motor that prevents the harvest cycle from completing. Water inlet issues, freezing temperatures that are too low or too high, and general wear over years of use can also cause the assembly to stop producing ice reliably. Look for these symptoms to help determine if the ice maker needs to be replaced: - Ice maker produces no ice despite water being supplied to the refrigerator - Ice cubes are undersized, misshapen, or clumped together in the bin - Ice maker runs continuously without stopping or harvesting - Loud clicking, grinding, or humming sounds coming from the freezer - Water leaks inside the freezer near the ice maker assembly - Ice has an unusual taste or odor not related to the water filter - Ice maker arm or shutoff mechanism does not respond correctly
