Solid newels are typically constructed from boards glued face to face. This means face grain is visible on two sides and edge grain is visible on the other two sides. Using miter lock corners (and decades of experience), we can now offer a solid newel with face grain on all four sides. The middle of the newel will be blocked with solid lumber to provide rigidity. This is a beautiful option to go with either a traditional baluster railing or a modern metal railing. Follow our Sure-Tite Installation Guide to establish a sturdy and secure fit. The 4300 Box Newel may be installed either on the surface of the stair tread or beside the tread. Due to their precise edges, we have found that Box Newels look best on a square starting step. Handrail Attachment Join handrail to your 4300 Box Newel using a rail bolt kit. Many configurations allow handrail to mount directly into the newel; however, if your handrail is joining with your box newel on a rake, you may also require a gooseneck handrail attachment.
