World War II: The Encyclopedia of the War Years 1941-1945

An authoritative and comprehensive survey of the World War II era, this reference features over 2,400 entries. Subjects range from battles, soldiers, and military activities to politics, culture, and the Holocaust. Its panoramic perspective on the war's influence on the American way of life encompasses transitory aspects-rationing, movies, songs, and sports-as well as long-term effects, such as women's changing social roles and the integration of the armed forces. "Highly recommended" by Library Journal, this volume's two-part approach begins with an extensive day-by-day chronology of key events, highlighted with quotations from prominent individuals. The "War Chronology" is cross-referenced with the second part, an encyclopedic "War Guide," consisting of information on people, places, weapons, and events. More than 85 illustrations enliven this complete military and social survey of the war years, in addition to two indexes, three appendixes, and suggestions for further reading.
