aquaLife 4″ x 13″ 200 Micron Felt Filter Sock with Plastic Ring Made in the USA to aquaLife Specifications Premium Mechanical Filtration for Reef & Saltwater Aquariums The aquaLife 4″ x 13″ 200 Micron Felt Filter Sock is manufactured in the USA to our exact specifications for durability, micron consistency, and long-term performance. Unlike mass-produced, imported socks, aquaLife filter socks are engineered for structural integrity and repeated wash cycles, delivering reliable mechanical filtration in demanding reef systems. Made in the USA – Built to Outlast Imported Socks Many low-cost filter socks are produced overseas with inconsistent felt density and weak seams that degrade after multiple washes. aquaLife socks are: – Manufactured in the USA – Environmentally friendly compared to roller filter and other media. – Produced to aquaLife material specifications – Great for saltwater and freshwater aquariums – Sewn with reinforced stitching – Designed for repeated machine washing – Built for high-flow aquarium systems The result: longer lifespan, better micron consistency, and more reliable filtration over time. Why 200 Micron Felt Polishes Water Better Felt is thicker and denser than mesh. This structure allows it to: – Capture finer suspended particles – Trap micro-detritus before it dissolves – Reduce dissolved organic load faster – Deliver visibly clearer, “polished” water By removing waste before it breaks down, felt helps reduce: – Ammonia formation – Nitrate accumulation – Organic buildup – Strain on biological filtration For most reef systems, felt provides superior water clarity and nutrient control. We Also Offer Mesh Filter Sock Versions aquaLife mesh filter socks are available for customers who prefer: – Higher flow rates – Slower clogging – Extended run time between cleaning – Media containment applications Why Choose Mesh? – Thinner material allows water to pass more freely – Clogs more slowly in heavy bio-load systems – Excellent as a reusable media bag or to add aquaLife Bonded Padding or floss – Ideal for carbon, phosphate remover, and biological media When to Choose Felt – When maximum water polishing is desired – When fine particulate removal is a priority – For reef tanks where clarity is critical _____ Many reef keepers keep both on hand: – Felt for polishing – Mesh for heavy feeding periods or media use Dual Use: Mechanical Filtration + Media Bag This 200-micron felt model can also be used to hold: – aquaLife Phosphate Remover – Pelleted Activated Carbon – aquaLife Bio Matrix While felt polishes more aggressively, mesh versions are preferred for longer-term media containment because they clog more slowly. Product Specifications – Size: 4″ x 13″ – Micron Rating: 200 – Inner Diameter: 3 9/16″ – Outer Diameter: 4 1/4″ – Ring Type: Plastic ring (standard 4″ holders) – Material: High-density felt – Manufactured: USA to aquaLife specifications Fits most standard 4″ sump holders. Installation 1) Rinse before first use. 2) Install in a standard 4″ mounting bracket inside the sump or refugium. 3) Direct drain water into the sock. 4) Keep the ring below the sump rim to prevent overflow when full. Cleaning & Reuse Instructions aquaLife filter socks are designed for repeated reuse. Keep Multiple on hand and ready for quick replacement. Routine Cleaning – Turn inside out – Rinse thoroughly with high-pressure hose – Clean when brown or when water flow slows Frequent cleaning prevents nutrient buildup. Deep Cleaning – Washing Machine Method 1) Turn the sock inside out 2) Wash in the machine using hot water 3) Add regular unscented household bleach 4) Do NOT use detergent 5) Run a full wash cycle 6) Run an additional rinse cycle 6) Air dry completely Once fully dry, chlorine residue dissipates. Ensure there is no bleach odor before reuse. This method significantly extends sock life span.
