Grade 3 Computer Science Program

The 3rd Grade Computer Science program introduces students to coding, data, and interactive design through hands-on exploration with the micro:bit, a pocket-sized programmable microcontroller. Students use block-based coding to display messages, animate LED patterns, and respond to inputs from buttons, sensors, and motion detectors. Teachers connect micro:bit projects across subjects—collecting and graphing data for science, analyzing variables for math, and creating pixel-art animations for art—while reinforcing key computational thinking skills like decomposition, algorithmic logic, and debugging. Supported by the micro:bit Club and Go! Bundles, a Code Joy Student Show, and a 45-minute onboarding session, this program provides 45–60-minute lessons that inspire creativity, data literacy, and cross-curricular connections through real-world, sensor-driven coding challenges.
