A tree saver strap is a wide, heavy-duty strap designed to connect your winch line to a tree without damaging the bark. It provides a strong, stable anchor point while protecting the tree and reducing wear on your gear. Can I use a regular tow strap instead of a tree saver? You can, but it’s not recommended. Tree saver straps are wider and more abrasion-resistant, which helps protect the tree and your equipment. Tow straps are often narrower and not built for anchoring around bark or handling side-loading stress. How do I properly use a tree strap for winching? Wrap the strap evenly around the base of a solid tree, keeping the strap as low as possible for stability. Align both loops side by side and connect them with a soft shackle or a recovery-rated D-ring before attaching your winch line. What size and strength should a tree saver strap be? An 8-foot strap is ideal for wrapping most trees without excess slack. It should have a breaking strength that far exceeds your winch’s pulling force. Yankum’s 3" x 8' Tree Strap is built from 2-ply polyester with a rugged Cordura sleeve for serious recoveries. Will a tree strap damage the tree? No. When used correctly, the wide design and protective sleeve help distribute the load and reduce bark damage. It’s a much safer choice than using narrow ropes, chains, or cables around trees.
