2" Orchid Jewel

The Orchid Jewel (Ludisia discolor) is a striking jewel orchid native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia. Known for its stunning foliage, this terrestrial orchid features velvety deep green leaves adorned with intricate patterns of silver or white veins. The leaves can reach up to 8 inches in length and are often oval in shape. While the flowers are small and not as showy as other orchids, they typically bloom in clusters on thin spikes, showcasing delicate white or pale pink blossoms. Care & Growing Condition: Light: Prefers indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little can hinder growth. Water: Water when top few inches of soil feels dry. Reduce watering frequency during winter months. Humidity: This plant prefers moderate to high humidity but can adapt to average household conditions. If the air is particularly dry, consider misting the plant occasionally or placing a humidifier nearby. Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend designed for succulents or a mix of regular potting soil with perlite or orchid bark to enhance drainage. Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring to summer). During fall and winter, reduce or cease fertilization. Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one and ensure it has drainage holes. Pruning: Prune to maintain shape and manage size as needed. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to encourage healthy growth. Pests/Diseases: Keep an eye out for common pests like mealybugs and spider mites. If spotted, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
