Whirlpool Washer Agitator (285727)

The Whirlpool Washer Agitator is the tall post-like component that sits in the center of a top-load washer tub and moves clothes through the water during the wash cycle. It rotates back and forth to create the scrubbing action that loosens dirt and detergent from fabrics, making it one of the most essential parts of the washing process. The Whirlpool Washer Agitator can wear out over time due to cracked plastic, stripped splines at the drive connection, or damage from overloading the washer with heavy items. Repeated stress from large or unbalanced loads can cause the agitator to loosen, break, or stop moving altogether, leaving clothes sitting in water without proper cleaning action. If you notice any of these symptoms, your agitator may need to be replaced: - Agitator does not move or rotate during the wash cycle - Agitator moves in only one direction instead of back and forth - Clothes come out dirty or not properly cleaned after a full wash - Agitator wobbles, feels loose, or shifts side to side in the tub - Visible cracks, breaks, or missing pieces on the agitator body - Loud clunking or slipping sound during the agitation cycle - Agitator spins freely without resistance when turned by hand
