U.S. Topographic Survey- Hamilton County, NY

This 1900 topographic survey map of Township 40, nestled in the Totten & Crossfield Purchase, offers a rich, contour-based view of the Long Lake and Raquette Lake region of Hamilton County, New York. Published by the U.S. Geological Survey and compiled under the supervision of H.S. Redfield, this edition highlights elevation and terrain with red-brown contour shading and meticulous detailing. Unlike the vegetation-focused version, this sheet emphasizes topography, with 20-foot contour intervals clearly mapping the mountainous Adirondack landscape. Key features like Bluff Point, South Bay, and Beaver Bay appear alongside trails, railroads, and early land divisions. The map distinguishes between state timber reserves and private lands, reflecting the region’s evolving land use during a formative moment in New York’s conservation history. Printed by James B. Lyon, State Printer, this map remains a stunning and historically valuable artifact of turn-of-the-century Adirondack surveying. Ideal for lovers of antique cartography, regional historians, or anyone drawn to the wild beauty of upstate New York. Size: 11.0" x 8.0" Condition: Good, Age-appropriate wear.
