This hardwood block with two punches is for shaping thin, soft metal and wax or for removing dents. The block has different depth depressions on each face and measures 2-1/4" on an edge. It is not for forming heavy gauge metal, but great for dapping thin metal (24ga or thinner). No marring or scratching. Use a plastic mallet to strike wood punches. Impressions tend to be shallower than on steel blocks. Wood can become marked or nicked by metal pieces. It's more portable because it's light weight. Stamped impressions may become distorted if they are later dapped. You have more choices when it comes to the depth of the impression curvatures. The thickness of your metal will determine if you use a plastic mallet or heavy hammer.
