2-Row Pale Malt - Riverbend

Clean Grain Character • Versatile American Base Malt • Foundation for Nearly Any Style 2-Row Pale Malt is the workhorse base malt of American craft brewing, prized for its clean, grainy flavor and dependable performance in everything from light lagers to imperial stouts. Its neutral, softly bready character provides a smooth canvas that lets hops, yeast, and specialty malts take center stage. With an extract potential of 37 PPG and a pale color of just 2 °Lovibond, 2-Row delivers efficient gravity points without pushing color or flavor where it isn't wanted. Its ample diastatic power also makes it an ideal partner for converting flaked adjuncts and other unmalted grains in the mash. Flavor & Aroma Profile Clean, neutral grain character Soft bready malt notes Subtle cereal sweetness Light straw-gold color contribution Smooth, balanced finish that showcases hops and yeast Because its flavor is restrained, 2-Row scales gracefully: as the percentage climbs, the beer simply gains gravity and gentle malt depth rather than any single dominating note, which is exactly what brewers want from a base malt. Brewing Applications2-Row Pale Malt is a staple ingredient in many American beer styles, including: American Pale Ale American IPA Amber Ale Blonde Ale Cream Ale American Stout and Porter It is also the go-to conversion engine for recipes built around flaked corn, rice, oats, or wheat, where its enzymes do the heavy lifting. Usage Recommendations2-Row Pale Malt can make up to 100% of the grain bill. Use it as the entire base for clean, hop-forward beers, or blend it with specialty malts where a smaller share still provides the fermentable backbone and enzymatic power the recipe needs. For a slightly richer base, swap a portion for Munich or Vienna malt; for crisp lagers, pair it with flaked rice or corn and a clean lager yeast.
