19th Century Painted Pine Blanket Chest

Rectangular pine blanket chest with a hinged lid and applied base molding, constructed with exposed hand-cut dovetail joinery at the corners. The case shows a warm, aged surface with a well-developed patina, highlighting the natural grain and wear patterns from long use. The lid opens on original iron strap hinges, revealing a spacious interior fitted with a small lidded till compartment along one side-likely intended for documents or smaller valuables. A simple keyhole escutcheon remains at the front, though no key is present. Shows heavy wear consistent with age including surface scratches, dents, and areas of finish loss. Lid has notable edge wear and minor separation at the front corner as shown. Iron hinges show oxidation but remain functional. Structurally sound overall.
