1990s Oliver Peoples Frames | Archive 0421

The Bacall presents a strong 1990s silhouette with broad, softly squared lenses and a compact, sculpted bridge. Its deep black acetate frame is defined by smooth, substantial edges, while small gold-tone hardware details at the temples add a restrained contrast. The oversized proportions and clean geometry give the design a distinctly confident character, with the original frame left ready for custom lenses. Frame Model: Bacall (BK) Decade: 1990s Country of Origin: Japan Lenses: Empty, ready for custom Condition: Excellent vintage Measurements: 64-15-119 Historical Context Oliver by Valentino was a diffusion line from the Italian fashion house Valentino, created as a more youthful and accessible expression of the brand. Emerging in the 1980s, the line translated Valentino’s signature Italian glamour into a more playful, spirited wardrobe, with a particular emphasis on bold color, strong silhouettes and expressive detailing. The name “Oliver” was reportedly inspired by Valentino Garavani’s beloved pug, giving the line a distinctly personal and whimsical character. The eyewear reflects this shift toward a more exuberant interpretation of Valentino. Oliver by Valentino frames from the late 1980s through the 1990s are known for oversized proportions, sculptural shapes, rich acetate colors and decorative details that feel unmistakably of the era. While connected to the Valentino name, the collection has its own identity, making these frames especially appealing as examples of the more playful side of Italian designer eyewear.
