This original hand-signed lithograph by American artist Dennis Wheeler was created for the United States Bobsled Team at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. These Games were historic as the first Winter Olympics ever held in a socialist country and the only Olympic Games hosted by a Muslim-majority city. They brought together 49 nations and over 1,200 athletes, marking a moment of unity and optimism during the later years of the Cold War. Wheeler’s artwork captures that spirit through motion and color. The bobsled races down the track in a burst of energy, its body streaked with vibrant blues, reds, and yellows that dissolve into speed. The letters “USA” blaze across the sled, transforming athletic force into pure visual rhythm. His dynamic composition and confident linework convey both the intensity of competition and the artistry of movement. Signed by Wheeler in 1984, this lithograph celebrates a moment when design, sport, and international cooperation all came together on the ice. It remains a vivid reflection of American pride and the creative optimism that defined the Sarajevo Games.
