A coming of age romcom with dark turns, Reputation reads like a modern story with modern YA problems, but set in Jane Austen's time period, perhaps why it's being compared to Bridgerton. Georgiana is abandoned by her parents, goes to live with boring aunt and uncle, and falls into a social life of lavish parties where she meets drunkenness, debauchery, drugs and lots of bad behavior, some of which she engages in herself. There are also comparisons to Mean Girls. The author includes Black, Indian, and queer characters in the novel, combating the whitewashing of British history. St. Martin's Griffin. 2021. Paper.
