During the years 1814-15, Europe attempts to end the wars and come to an agreement for lasting peace. The Congress of Vienna assembled a stellar cast with supporting rogues, mistresses, clairvoyants and spies. The cultural and social background of all the major European countries is detailed. Personalities of key players, and the diplomatic games they played, where alliances formed at breakfast could be destroyed by dinner, are entertainingly described. The true horrors of Waterloo are described. A scholarly and enjoyable history. Other than some light foxing on the top page edges, this book is like new. Henry Holt and Company. Hb, Dj. USED. $8.00
