The Metrical Paraphrase is a poetic interpretation of the Old Testament produced in the late 14th century as an accessible text, written in the vernacular and in an entertaining style. The choices made by the poet of materials to translate, and his take on Biblical stories, illuminate much about the opinions of the day on poetry, religion, gender, and reform. Insightful introduction provides history of the Biblical canon and its shifts through time. New, still in publisher's plastic. TEAMS Middle English Text Series, Medieval Institute Publications. 2011.
