Foreword by Margaret Atwood. It's long been famously understood that male writers have other male writers as friends. Think, for example, of Byron and Shelley, or Fitzgerald and Hemingway. For this work, two friends have worked together to research women writers' friendships with other women writers, and how those friendships bolstered their success and enriched their lives. Their research involves a lot of diaries and letters, and includes previously unpublished material.  Jane Austen and amateur playwright Anne Sharpe; George Eliot and her seemingly opposite friend Harriet Beecher  Stowe; Katherine Mansfield and her frenemy Virginia Woolf.  Intriguing, valuable contribution to our understanding of authorship.
