Morrison is known to Janeites for his annotation of Harvard's Persuasion, one of those beautiful oversized books we all have on our shelves. In this new book, Morrison explores the years 1811-1820 with wit and lively detail, arguing that the Regency had more to do with ushering in the modern world than some folks might think. This wide-ranging, highly entertaining collection connects political satire, celebrity, empire and war, theatre and the arts, changing landscapes, sexual pastimes, crime, and the dawn of the industrial boom to modern England. Morrison has also edited Thomas de Quincey, Leigh Hunt, and John Polidori. Great b&w illustrations, bibliography, helpful endnotes, thorough index. W. W. Norton. 2019. List $29.95. Hb, Dj. NEW. $25.00
