6K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric

This fabric features a tight weave and a cosmetically perfect 6K, 2x2 twill pattern. As a mid-weight carbon, it is twice the thickness as 3K, making it slightly stiffer and less drapable than our 3K version. It's best suited for flatter surfaces requiring less conformability. It retains the signature appearance that is highly desirable for modern composite parts in the aerospace, auto, marine, and sporting goods industries. This fabric is frequently used for structural applications, offering improved economics to fabricators when compared to multiple layers of lighter fabrics. 6K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric Features Twill weave provides signature aesthetics and ease of use Use for structural applications--save time vs. multiple layers of lighter fabrics Unmatched strength to weight ratio High Modulus for superior rigidity Fire resistant material Fatigue resistance for durable strength 6K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric Tips Ideal for making high-strength, light weight parts that don't need to withstand high temperatures To maximize strength properties, use with an epoxy, like our System 2001 Laminating Epoxy Resin. For added conformability, lay up the fabric at a 45-degree bias inside molds. Twill fabrics are prone to unraveling when cut. Be sure to use our #1735-A Perfect Line Tape, or Dritz Fray Check, #1713-A. 6K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric Specifications Warp 6K Filling 6K Strength 525-600 KSI Tensile Modulus 34.1-35.4 MSI Weave 2x2 Twill Full Roll Length 100 yards Thickness 0.017" Color Black Weight 10.9 oz/sq yd Fibre Glast Guarantee Fibre Glast is committed to ensuring that every roll of fabric we handle is First Quality and manufactured to the highest standards, so that you can expect the same properties and handling characteristics every time you order. The 6K, 2x2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric (#1073) from Fibre Glast is a mid-weight carbon fiber that features a tight weave and a cosmetically perfect 2x2 twill pattern. At 10.9 oz/sq yd, it is twice the thickness of the 3K version, making it slightly stiffer and less drapable. It retains the signature appearance that is highly desirable for modern composite parts in the aerospace, auto, marine, and sporting goods industries. This fabric is frequently used for structural applications, offering improved economics to fabricators when compared to multiple layers of lighter fabrics. Why Choose 6K Over 3K or 12K Carbon Fiber? The 6K weave occupies the practical middle ground between workability and production efficiency. Compared to 3K fabric (#1069 at 5.7 oz/sq yd), the #1073 builds thickness faster with each layer while remaining more conformable than the 12K (#1072 at 19.8 oz/sq yd).  This makes it a good option for structural applications that need efficient buildup but still require reasonable drapability. The #1073 has a tensile strength of 525-600 KSI and a tensile modulus of 34.1-35.4 MSI. Note that the strength is lower than the 3K twill (610-640 KSI), so the 6K is best positioned for applications where buildup speed and economics are priorities over maximum tensile performance. For fabricators, fewer layers translates directly to faster layup times and reduced labor costs. What Are the Best Applications for #1073 Carbon Fiber? The #1073 is best suited for flatter surfaces requiring less conformability, where its stiffer nature becomes an advantage rather than a limitation. It is ideal for making high-strength, lightweight parts that don't need to withstand high temperatures. The twill weave provides signature aesthetics and ease of use across aerospace, auto, marine, and sporting goods applications. The 6K construction is particularly valuable for structural applications where improved economics compared to multiple layers of lighter fabrics provides significant production value. How Should #1073 Carbon Fiber Be Used for Best Results? To maximize strength properties, use with an epoxy resin such as Fibre Glast System 2000 Epoxy (#2000). For added conformability on curved surfaces, lay up the fabric at a 45-degree bias inside molds. Twill fabrics are prone to unraveling when cut — use Perfect Line Tape (#1735-A) or Dritz Fray Check (#1713-A) to secure cut edges during fabrication. Available in 1-yard (#1073-A), 3-yard (#1073-B), and 5-yard (#1073-C) prepacks, as well as continuous cut-to-length yardage for orders of 10 yards or more. Quantity discounts continue to deepen as yardage increases for any single cut of fabric. Fibre Glast is committed to ensuring that every roll of fabric is First Quality and manufactured to the highest standards, delivering consistent properties and handling characteristics every time you order.
