12K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric

This twill weave will add bulk to your laminate quickly. Due to its heavier weight and thickness, this fabric is slightly more difficult to form than lighter-weight carbon. While it's not generally used for small, complex shapes, it is excellent for flat parts and high strength requirements.  Twill weaves offer the signature appearance that is highly desirable for modern composite parts with great conformability and strength. This fabric is frequently used for structural applications, offering improved economics to fabricators when compared to multiple layers of lighter fabrics. 12K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric Features Twill weave provides signature aesthetics and ease of use Used to quickly add bulk and strength Unmatched strength to weight ratio High Modulus for superior rigidity Fire resistant material Fatigue resistance for durable strength Tips for 12K, 2 x 2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric Ideal for core strength, with other, lighter weight fabrics used at the surface. To maximize strength properties, use with an epoxy, like our System 2000 Epoxy Resin (#2000). For added conformability, lay up the fabric at a 45-degree bias inside molds. Twill fabrics are prone to unraveling when cut. Be sure to use our #1735-A Perfect Line Tape, or Dritz Fray Check, #1713-A. The 12K 2x2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric from Fibre Glast is a heavyweight carbon fiber reinforcement designed for applications requiring substantial structural strength with fewer layers.  This fabric features 12K carbon tow (12,000 filaments per fiber bundle) woven in a classic 2x2 twill pattern, weighing 19.8 oz/sq yd with a thickness of 0.030 inches. The heavy-duty construction delivers exceptional tensile strength of 620-655 KSI and a tensile modulus of 33.1-34.4 MSI, making it among the heaviest-duty woven carbon fabrics in the Fibre Glast lineup for demanding structural applications. Why Choose 12K Carbon Fiber Over 3K or 6K for Heavy Structural Applications? The 12K tow provides significantly more fiber per layer than lighter weight options like 3K (5.7 oz/sq yd) or 6K (10.9 oz/sq yd) fabrics. This means fabricators can build thickness and strength with fewer layers, dramatically improving production efficiency for structural applications where total laminate thickness is the primary concern. While the heavier weight makes it slightly more difficult to conform to complex curves than lighter carbon fabrics, it excels on flat parts and large structural components where maximum strength per layer is the priority. The generous 50-inch width accommodates most project requirements without piecing multiple fabric widths together. What Are the Best Applications for #1072 12K Carbon Fiber Fabric? This fabric is frequently chosen for core structural layers in composite layups, where lighter weight fabrics may be used at the surface for aesthetics while the #1072 provides the backbone of structural strength underneath. Common applications include: Automotive body panels requiring high rigidity and lightweight performance Marine structural components subjected to continuous loading and fatigue cycling Industrial equipment operating in demanding environments Aerospace secondary structures requiring high stiffness with minimal layup time  The 2x2 twill pattern offers the signature herringbone appearance that has become synonymous with high-performance composites across all industries. How Should #1072 12K Carbon Fiber Be Used for Best Results? For maximum strength properties, use with epoxy resin such as Fibre Glast System 2000 Epoxy (#2000). When working with curved molds requiring conformability, laying the fabric at a 45-degree bias improves drapeability significantly while maintaining excellent mechanical properties. Note that twill weaves are prone to unraveling when cut, so use Perfect Line Tape (#1735-A) or Dritz Fray Check (#1713-A) to control edges during handling and fabrication. The 100-yard full roll length provides economical coverage for larger projects with significant material requirements.
