Dunstan Chestnut™ trees are the most widely planted chestnut trees in America, combining excellent nut quality, fast growth, and strong blight resistance. They grow successfully from Maine and New York to the Midwest and throughout the South, making them ideal for both wildlife habitat and commercial or backyard orchards. Dunstan Chestnuts are one of the best trees for attracting deer, producing reliable mast crops every year. These trees can begin producing nuts in 3–5 years depending on climate and care (5–7 years in colder USDA Zone 5). For best results, plant in well-drained soil on a south-facing slope and avoid frost pockets or heavy clay. Mature trees can produce 50–100 lbs of large, sweet, tannin-free nuts, with young trees yielding 20 lbs by year ten. Cold hardy to USDA Zones 5–9 and easy to grow in a wide range of conditions. Trees may be lightly pruned to fit shipping boxes. This will not affect tree health or nut production. Click for Learning Center: Dunstan Chestnuts
